I’ve been dating my boyfriend for about 8 months now. Everything was going fine until he suddenly started “needing his space”. I don’t know if I’ve done something wrong  to make him upset. Does he want to break up and this is an easy way to let me down?  What do I do?

This seems to be a popular question! And one where men and women vary greatly in opinion. When you were a little girl, you dreamed up your wedding, acted it out, and made your little brother be the groom. You always had the picture-perfect romance in your mind. But men don’t put much more thought into their futures other than wondering when they’ll have sex!

Your boyfriend may need space because your relationship is more involving than he contemplated. Maybe he just needs to check in with himself and see if he’s where he wants or needs to be in his life. Also to see if he can exist as a person without you. It’s usually nothing more than that. If he was cheating, I’m sure you would see the signs. Maybe he’s feeling overwhelmed from too much time together. Step back and give him some breathing room.

Unless needing “space” means moving to another state without you, give him some time to work out his issues. If it’s something more serious and he’s taking too much time, you need to address the issue. Simply ask him if there is a problem or anything you can do to help him through this “situation.”

Good luck and keep us posted!
