When I first watched the Kingsman movie, I spent hours digging the internet for ways to be a classic gentleman. No seriously, I did. Nothing says “style” more than a man in a fitting suit beating the crap out of some street thugs with just his umbrella. Whether it’s a cocktail party, a job interview or a wedding, knowing how to look good is something every modern gentleman wants. Here, we cover 15 must-have items every modern gentleman should own.
A custom-made fitting suit
The last thing you want in your closet as a refined gentleman is an oversized suit. It’s not enough that you should just splash out on any suit for you to realize that classy gentleman look. You will need to get a suit that actually fits, and it’s not hard to see why. The fitting elaborates your broad shoulders and the buttons speak details. Don’t forget to play with the colors. For everyday wear, opt for a grey or navy blue suit rather than a black one. I bet you didn’t know that. You’re welcome.
Whenever we talk about the best things in life, we can’t fail to mention fine wine. Rather than the overrated manifold levers used to unscrew wine bottle corks, why not pull out a simple corkscrew from your pocket and surprise everybody. Let the champagne showers begin

A Linen Handkerchief
A linen handkerchief is another must-have tool for any gentleman. Imagine being on a date with a gorgeous woman, and she accidentally spills her drink on her blouse. With your linen handkerchief, you can comfortably say, “Oh, let me get that…” That’s two extra points for you, sir.
A Fountain Pen
Not so many people like fountain pens. They are quite fragile, they don’t work on some surfaces, and the ink may spill on your shirt… It’s just too much work. But that’s the whole point. There are hundreds of alternatives to iPhones, but that doesn’t stop certain people from buying them. Truth is, being sophisticated is not for everyone. Just remember that your fountain pen will come in handy when you have to jot down your phone number after a fun night with a girl at the bar; and unlike the ballpoint users, you don’t have to worry about gravity.
A nice cologne
Every true gentleman needs his own signature scent. This way, people around you slowly and subconsciously learn to associate a certain scent to you. Again, a good cologne adds to your confidence. You don’t have to worry about giving people hugs on a hot day or covering your date with your coat on a chilly evening. A good scent arouses good memories and draws more people to you.
A watch. A serious watch
If you have to complement your appearance as a gentleman with some extra add-ons, a watch is the best place to start. It’s not so much for checking the time but rather to keep your accessorizing habits simple and concise. Watches hide a lot of elegance and sophistication in a man as opposed to the more eyed necklaces and bracelets. As a benchmark, always consider the dial and strap before investing in a good watch. Personally, I prefer a leather-strapped watched with a clean dial since I can wear it on most occasions.
A shirt is only a gentleman shirt if you can mount a pair of cufflinks on it. Some cufflinks, like the knot cufflinks, are quite pricey but as they say, much is more. So if you can afford them, then go for it; they are very versatile. If you can’t, then you don’t have to panic. There are hundreds of cufflink varieties in the market and you can definitely find something to go well with your suit. Just remember to stay on budget.
A camera. Your phone camera doesn’t count!
I’ll say it again; your phone camera does not count! Being a classic gentleman demands control, even over something as silly as your camera’s shutter speed. For that, you will need to own a camera that doesn’t make phone calls and match with women on Tinder. Investing in a good camera will allow you to snap fun moments with your friends and family in great detail. That is something you definitely want in your profile.
Lighters are not for smokers only. Think about all the problems you can solve with a lighter: or better still, don’t. Just get yourself a classic Zippo lighter and carry it around every time. You will thank me later.
A trench coat
Trench coats date back as early as the 19th century, and we have Thomas Burberry to thank for this chefs-d’oeuvre. The dense fabric and creative design add some extra mystery to your whole gentleman look while keeping you warm in the cold.
